AIR BALLOON INN Birdlip, Gloucester |
A popular venue on the Cotswold escarpment at Crickley Hill. Although the restaurant seems to attract most of the trade, it still retains the original small bar. Ale selection has been altered to accommodate its owners, Greene King; pump clip reversals being its main downfall and almost to be expected (even on a Saturday night!). Three ales are supposed to be available, but as per the last visit, they never are!
Greene King IPA

AMBERLEY INN Amberley |
A hotel pub with an active local trade as well. A busy but cosy atmosphere with three pumps in action supplying a decent choice of beer.
Archer's Best / Nailsworth's Town Crier / Stroud's Tom Long
@ 8th April 2008
|
ANCHOR INN Epney Gloucester |
Traditional, rather than cosy pub with glorious views of the Severn from it's riverside gardens. Normally two standard ales available with a third added of late(Landlord).
Adnam's Bitter / London Pride / Timothy Taylor Landlord

APPLE TREE Minsterworth, Gloucester |
Falling out of favour very quickly. A games room instead of the old restaurant and a typical 'eaterie pub' menu, but worse than that, only one ale instead of three, and the ubiquitous Doom Bar at that.
Doom Bar
@ 28th April 2007
|
BAKER'S ARMS Somerford Keynes |
Not quite the quaint village local of old but more of a bistro restaurant with a decent garden. A real let down on the last visit with two of our 'walkout' beers on the menu accompanied by a 'seen better days' 6X. The Archers, Wickwar and Old Speckled Hen guests of old were nowhere to be seen, more's the pity!
Hooky Bitter / John Courage Best / 6X
@ 7th April 2007
|
BATHURST ARMS North Cerney, Cirencester |
A 'local' atmosphere with diners suitably catered for. Three pumps with popular support for Gloucestershire breweries.
Cotswold Way / Hooky Bitter / Severn Vale's Severn Bells
@ 9th October 2007
|
BEAR INN Bisley |
A wonderful pub with plenty of Cotswold village atmosphere, divided into two main bar areas and one seperate dining room. The choice of ales are fairly consistent.
Bombardier / Tetley Cask / Old Speckled Hen
@ 12th February 2008
|
BEAR OF RODBOROUGH Rodborough Common |
A large dominant hotel on the Common with a rather cosy welcoming bar area. Four pumps displaying a good range of ales including local breweries.
Butcombe Blonde / Cotswold Way / Stroud's Tom Long / 6X

|
BELL INN Frampton on Severn |
Situated in a scenic spot on the famous Frampton village green, this 'bistro' pub is certainly popular, especially after extensive alterations. Three pumps that can vary but never seem to diversify and excel as of old.
Abbot Ale / Doom Bar / Otter Bitter
@ 16th February 2008
|
BELL INN Shurdington |
Back to basics with the feeling of being in a pub rather than a restaurant again. A much keener interest in providing real ale with another pump taking it to four.
Brakspear's Bitter / Sharp's Atlantic IPA / Spitfire / Top Jockey
@ 8th March 2008
|
BELL Sapperton |
Definitely a restaurant rather than a pub these days. That said, it has an excellent array of ales to choose from if you are prepared to stand around to drink; an unreserved table can be hard to find sometimes.
Bath Gem / Otter Bitter / Stroud's Budding / Uley Old Spot
@ 12th February 2008
|
BELL Selsley |
Deceptive pub with seperate bar, lounge and small restaurant. Has a lot to promote it but seems to prefer the 'local' status. Guest beers are no longer available, relying on two standard selections.
Doom Bar / Greene King IPA
@ 4th September 2007
|
BLACK HORSE INN Amberley |
Not signposted at all, but well worth searching out, deep in the village of Amberley with terrific views across the Stroud Valley. A wonderful array of ales with something to suit everyone. Make the effort to visit.
Archer's Best / Cotswold Spring Gloucestershire Glory / Stroud's Budding / Stroud's Tom Long / Timothy Taylor Landlord

BLACK HORSE Cranham |
A popular village pub embedded in the heart of Cranham. If it wasn't for the atrocious car park that looks like a lunar landscape, then we would visit more frequently, but we've got more respect for our cars! Not quite the force it used to be when there was a selection of up to five ales, more often than not there will be a few session type beers now with the odd flash of the past with an unusual guest e.g. St.Austell's Proper Job.
Butcombe Bitter / Doom Bar / Hancocks HB
@ 22nd March 2008

BLACK HORSE INN Naunton |
Homely and secluded pub making a big effort on the cuisine! Donnington country so don't expect anything else.
Donningon BB / Donnington SBA
@ 27th June 2007
|
BOAT INN Ashleworth |
Supreme Champion and winner of many Real Ale awards. Resting slightly on its laurels nowadays, but at least four ales to choose from on the blackboard and one day can be as different to the next. As the ales are served on tap from an adjoining room rather than a cellar, our preference is for off-summer visits as the ale is cooler, but sitting by the river on a balmy evening can still hold sway.
Dorothy Goodbody's Golden Ale / RCH East Street Cream / RCH P.G.Steam
@ 8th January 2008
|
BUTCHER'S ARMS Eldersfield |
A change of owner and a change of name, formerley the Greyhound Inn. A quaint, old fashioned, rural pub serving beer on-tap. Normally two ales (but only one when we visited) that vary from week to week and certainly a step forward.
Wye Valley's Dorothy Goodbody's Golden Ale
@ 22nd April 2008
|
BUTCHER'S ARMS Oakridge Lynch |
No longer a free house but now under the auspices of Wadworth with hopes that it can attain the achievements of yesteryear. Obviously Wadworth in abundance but nice to see 'proper' guests appearing some of the time.
Henry IPA / JCB / 6X
@ 5th April 2008
|
BUTCHER'S ARMS Sheepscombe |
Atmosphere is no extra charge. Superb location amongst the Cotswold hills although parking can be a problem as the pub has become overly successful to the tourist and locals alike. Up to three pumps that seem to vary more with the current owners.
Otter Ale / St.Austell's Tribute
@ 29th January 2008
