FALCON INN Painswick GL6 6UN |
A marked improvement compared with previous visits. A brighter, more open aspect to the bar area with three ales being supplied.
Butcombe Bitter / Sharp's Doom Bar / Stroud's Budding
@ 24th January 2012
|
FIVE MILE HOUSE Duntisbourne Abbots GL7 7JR |
This should feature higher on priority visits, but with a tiny bar area and the dreaded 'reserved' signs on other tables, it can deter the casual drinker from stopping too often. Regular breweries include Donnington, Wickwar and Young's with an occassional flair of brilliance in guest choice.
Hook Norton's Hooky Bitter / Sharp's Doom Bar / Wickwar's Coopers

FOSTONS ASH The Camp, Birdlip GL6 7ES |
Not recommended for a drop in drink (unless it is summer when you can sit on the patio / garden). Let's face it, this is a restaurant more than a pub and it can feel uncomfortable just having a drink as there are few available tables for such activities. That said, if you are eating and fancy some real ale then there is a good local selection.
Festival Pride / Great Western's Maiden Voyage / Stroud's Tom Long
@ 28th June 2011

FOUNTAIN INN Gloucester GL1 2NW |
Just what a city centre pub should be. Not dowdy, but bright and busy. Not themed, but traditional. Even better when they set the bar full of real ales. An excellent pint.

FOX AND HOUNDS Coaley GL11 5EG |
A traditional village pub that seems to have found a format it is comfortable with after various changes to style. The unusual guest ales don't seem to surface anymore, but very cosy though, especially in front of the fire on a cold evening.
Black Sheep Bitter / Butcombe Bitter / Severn Vale's Session

FROGMILL HOTEL Shipton Oliffe GL54 4HT |
A quintessential Cotswold hotel with history, location and atmosphere. For years in the doldrums with respect to real ale but literally as well, being closed more often than not in the last four years. Encouraging to see new enthusiasm of late, especially with positive plans for real ale at the forefront.
Cotswold Spring's Ambler / Cotswold Spring's Mystery

FROMEBRIDGE MILL Whitminster GL2 7PD |
Well known for the carvery and restaurant, but fortunately there is a large bar area and a wonderful patio overlooking the weir and lake if you only want to drink. A Greene King outlet only so even guests when they have them are from Greene King owned breweries!
Greene King Abbot Ale / Greene King IPA / Moreland's Old Speckled Hen
@ 5th April 2011
|
GARDENER'S ARMS Alderton GL20 8NL |
Whilst providing a well supported culinary side to it's business, the pub is very enthusiastic concerning real ale. Unusual offerings from all around the country blend in with the more known names. An excellent pint with knowledgeable and friendly owners.
Marston Moor's Merriemaker / Shire's Best Bitter / Worthington's White Shield
@ 11th October 2011

GEORGE HOTEL Newent GL18 1PU |
Not a flamboyant or sophisticated place but what's lacking in style is made up with in the ale choice. Up to four pumps on with local brews given a good representation.
Great Western's Bees Knees / Hancock's HB / Sharp's Doom Bar
@ 27th September 2011
|
GEORGE INN Cambridge GL2 7AL |
Another eaterie rather than true 'local', with attention on food rather than drink. It fails ignomiously, all too often, with reversed pump clip syndrome, but a good pint can be forthcoming if the clips are facing your way.
Butcombe Bitter / Mole's Elmo's Fire / Mole's Mole Catcher
@ 25th October 2011
|
GEORGE INN Frocester GL10 3TQ |
An inn for all occasions with bars, restaurant and function room. A good choice of ales available with up to five pumps in action, sometimes all with recognisable names but if the timing is right you might just get that welcome surprise. Be aware that only some of the ales are on display as there are two bars and there are different pumps in each.
Hook Norton's Hooky Bitter / Sharp's Cornish Coaster / Timothy Taylor Landlord / Wye Valley's HPA
@ 13th July 2010

GLOUCESTER OLD SPOT Elmstone Hardwick, Cheltenham GL51 9SY |
A transformation that truly exceeds expectations. The indifference of yesteryear has been eradicated and the change is completed with a trio of more acceptable ales that change from time to time.
Hop Back's G.F.B. / Purity's Mad Goose / Timothy Taylor's Golden Best
@ 6th September 2011
|
GOLDEN HEART Nettleton Bottom GL4 8LA |
Usually four ales on the blackboard, with frequent changes, although premium ales are not featured as heavily as in the past. If there is a great demand for their catering side, all tables may be booked and the bar areas are tiny.
Brakspear's Bitter / Otter Bitter / Ringwood Fortyniner

GREYHOUND Siddington GL7 6HR |
A Wadworth house with the usual range of standards and the occassional bonus of associated guests, but make sure to check the pumps in the bar and lounge as they can be different and are not always advertised as such.
