RAGGED COT INN Minchinhampton |
A popular inn with well defined areas of restaurant, lounge and bar as well as good gardens. Under Marston's control but gives guest ales a good look in.
Marston's Pedigree / Jennings' Sneck Lifter / Red Brick's Shire Oak
@ 30th August 2007
|
RAM INN Bussage |
Not too easy to find, but extremely well known and popular. Usually very rigid choice of beers with the emphasis on session ales rather than premiums, but every now and then it can surprise.
Butcombe Bitter / Greene King IPA / Old Hooky
@ 19th January 2008
|
RAM INN South Woodchester |
This pub has always been synonymous with cask ale, local breweries being well represented and its promotion material heralding 'six real ales always available'. Unfortunately both Stroud Brewery clips were turned round when we visited! It can get quite packed, especially the car park, but well worth trying.
Butcombe Bitter / Cotswold Spring's Codrington Codger / Goff's Jouster / Uley Old Spot
@ 11th March 2008
|
RED HART Blaisdon |
A very popular restaurant and bar boasting up to five real ales to suit all tastes. A premiere pub in all respects.
Adnam's Broadside / BOB / Hooky Bitter / RCH's Pitchfork / Three Castles' Barbury Castle
@18th September 2007
|
RED LION INN Wainlodes |
In winter you can have the place to yourself; in summer the entire population of Gloucester seems to descend on this riverside pub. Take your choice which you prefer, but Coopers always present and another pump in summer with 6X or the like.
Wickwar's BOB / Wickwar's Coopers
@ 5th June 2007
|
RED LION Arlingham |
Although out on a limb on the Arlingham peninsula, the pub can be worth the travelling. Just taken over again when we visited, but if it follows in previous footsteps there will be days when unusual guests will feature and others when the tried and tested formulae prevails but the selection usually justifies a visit.
Adnam's Explorer / Butcombe Bitter / Hooky Bitter
@ 10th April 2007
|
RED LION Westbury on Severn |
A cosy village pub that sits quietly on the A48 at Westbury. Very much worth calling in because of it's allegiance to guest ales over the years and different landlords have continued the policy, but as with many pubs, if you're timing is wrong then disappointment ensues and a solitary Bass may be all that's waiting for you.
BOB / Freeminer's Speculation
@ 13th June 2006
|
RISING SUN HOTEL Cleeve Hill |
An excellent setting for this quality hotel with views across to the Severn plains and providing a good selection of beers from which to choose. Four Greene King ales usually provided
Abbot Ale / Abbot Reserve / Greene King IPA / Ruddles County
@ 20th November 2007
|
ROSE AND CROWN Nympsfield |
From an oasis providing guests such as Bishop's Tipple, Little Puck, Smiles etc., etc., and having up to six ales on at a time, the pub has seen a few owners since, but none have reproduced the same adventurous style.
Butcombe Bitter / Goff's Tournament / Otter Bitter / Uley Bitter
@ 26th March 2008
|
ROSE AND CROWN Redmarley |
Hard to define what market this pub is aiming at. Certainly not your quaint country inn pandering to select diners, nor an out and out local. Whatever it is, it always seems to be busy when we call.
Brains' Rev.James / Greene King IPA
@ 22nd April 2008
|
ROYAL EXCHANGE INN Hartpury |
A rather busy pub when students from the neighbouring college are in resident. Ales not a static choice, but with Bombardier and Old Speckled Hen appearing on the rota occasionally, always worth a look. Just be prepared for a dose of 'average' as below.
Bass / Greene King IPA
@ 3rd October 2006
|
ROYAL GEORGE HOTEL Birdlip |
A Greene King outlet only. Very annoying if the premium ales have their clips reversed, because if that's the case, move on somewhere else as a new barrel never seems to be forthcoming the same day!
Abbot Ale / Greene King IPA
@ 5th January 2008
|
ROYAL OAK Andoversford |
A nice, homely traditional local with a decent restaurant. It is fast becoming a renowned venue for real ale with the addition of yet another pump; five now in total, with local breweries always represented.
Goff's Launcelot / North Cotswold's Cockles of your Heart / Otter Ale / Sharp's Doom Bar / Stanway's Stanney Bitter
@ 29th March 2008
|
ROYAL OAK Gretton |
No longer a Goff's establishment so plenty of other brewers represented. Plenty of room inside, and in summer the gardens provide excellent views of the surrounding countryside and a sight of the Toddington steam train if you're lucky.
Bombardier / Jouster / Old Speckled Hen
@20th November 2007
|
ROYAL OAK North Woodchester |
A lovely olde worlde feeling about the place with little decor to enhance its restaurant or traditional bar, but really should pull in a lot more custom than it does. A good selection of up to four ales if you time it right, but Adnam's Broadside and Sharp's Doom Bar are always the first to run dry (as we often witness!).
Nailsworth's Alestock / Old Speckled Hen
@ 4th September 2007
|
ROYAL OAK Painswick |
It doesn't have to try too hard for custom, being in the tourist trap of Painswick, but the latest owners have admirably installed a complete range of Stroud Brewery's ales. The best line up witnessed here for decades.
Budding / Teasel / Tom Long
@ 15th April 2008
|
ROYAL OAK Prestbury |
A small cosy bar with an excellent choice of ales, especially the guests which can be from about any brewery in the country . A very friendly place where we are always made very welcome.
Kelham Island's Kelham Gold / Milk Street's Mermaid / Timothy Taylor Landlord
@ 21st August 2007
|
ROYAL OAK South Cerney |
A somewhat indifferent pub. Not a smart one and certainly not scruffy - it just needs a bit of a boost. The same could be said of it's beer; sometimes brilliant (Archer's Golden, Cascade), then sometimes not quite so. Always worth finding out though.
Butcombe Bitter / London Pride / St.Austell's Tribute/ Waggledance
@ 24th July 2007
