RAGGED COT INN Minchinhampton GL6 8PE |
Another refurbishment that has taken the cosy individuality away and now could be one of many anaesthesised inns. It still maintains well defined areas of restaurant, lounge and bar as well as good gardens. Under Marston's control with many Marston owned 'guests'.
Banks' Lion's Roar / Jennings' Cocker Hoop / Marston's Pedigree / Ringwood Best

RAM INN Bussage GL6 8BB |
Not too easy to find, but extremely well known and popular. Usually very rigid choice of beers with the emphasis on session ales rather than premiums, but every now and then it can surprise.
Butcombe Bitter / Greene King IPA / Fuller's London Pride

RAM INN South Woodchester GL5 5EQ |
This pub has always been synonymous with cask ale; local breweries always well represented. It can get quite packed, especially the car park, but well worth trying.
Butcombe Bitter / Butcombe's Brunel IPA / Cottage's Southern Bitter / Stroud's Budding / Stroud's Organic Ale / Uley Old Spot

RED HART Blaisdon GL17 0AH |
A very popular restaurant and bar boasting up to five real ales to suit all tastes. A premiere pub in all respects.
Goff's Jouster / Hooky Bitter / Sharp's Own / Slater's Top Totty

RED LION INN Wainlodes GL2 9LW |
In winter you can have the place to yourself; in summer the entire population of Gloucester seems to descend on this riverside pub. Take your choice which you prefer, but Coopers always present.

RED LION Westbury on Severn GL14 1PA |
A cosy village pub that sits on the A48 at Westbury. Has undergone many quiet phases over the years but is in a busy one at the moment. Strange that in the leaner times there was a good choice of ales but currently in these popular times there is generally only one pump.
Wye Valley's Butty Bach

RISING SUN HOTEL Cleeve Hill GL52 3PX |
An excellent setting for this quality hotel with views across to the Severn plains. It provides a range of beers from which to choose, all of which are Greene King ales with only pseudo guests from breweries they have taken over.
Abbot Ale / Greene King IPA / Hare Raiser / Old Speckled Hen
@ 23rd March 2010

ROSE AND CROWN Nympsfield |
The pub has seen a few owners since its glory days when you had a choice from six brews, but none have reproduced the same adventurous style of ale selection. The latest owners are putting in a great deal of effort though, with a restaurant refurbishment under way and three or four pumps now available.
Butcombe Bitter / Uley Bitter / Uley's Pig's Ear

ROSE AND CROWN Redmarley GL19 3NB |
Definitely not your quaint country inn pandering to select diners, more of a village community pub. It always seems to be busy whenever we call though, and with a choice from three pumps.
Adnam's Bitter / Greene King IPA / St.Austell's Tribute

ROYAL EXCHANGE INN Hartpury GL19 3BW |
A cosy enough pub that should impose its true ambience far better than it does, especially with the real log fires in the various rooms. Not quite a 'foodie' place, although diners are very welcome, but the real transformation under the current owners, is with the ale. Just free of its ties on cask selection it now heralds a new era featuring as many local ales as possible with price promotions on its highlighted 'beer of the week'. We are anticipating a visit soon to see for ourselves but even the selection before (as below) was excellent.

ROYAL GEORGE HOTEL Birdlip GL4 8JH |
A Greene King outlet only, with up to three standard pumps. Very annoying when their clips are reversed, because if that's the case, move on somewhere else as a new barrel never seems to be forthcoming the same day!
Abbot Ale / Greene King IPA / Old Speckled Hen

ROYAL OAK Andoversford GL54 4HR |
A homely, traditional local complete with restaurant but not always on top form especially where the ale is concerned. There can be up to five pumps operating but when we called last only two were on. Skinner's Betty Stoggs couldn't deliver a whole pint and the Stanney Bitter was definitely on the turn so a walkout ensued (not the first time either). At most other times there is no problem but you take your chance.
No real ale (see above)

ROYAL OAK Gretton GL54 5EP |
Goffs, the local brewers, always represented but plenty of others get a look in. Plenty of room inside, and in summer the gardens provide excellent views of the surrounding countryside and a sight of the Toddington steam train if you're lucky.
Goff's Jouster / Stanway's Stanney Bitter / Ringwood Bitter / Ringwood Fortyniner

ROYAL OAK North Woodchester GL5 5PQ |
A lovely olde worlde feeling about the place with little decor to enhance its restaurant or traditional bar, but really should pull in a lot more custom than it does. Two selections of ale available.
Sharp's Doom Bar / St.Austell's Tribute
@ 13th January 2009

ROYAL OAK Painswick GL6 6QG |
It doesn't have to try too hard for custom, being in the tourist trap of Painswick, but the latest owners have admirably installed a range of local ales and not unusual to find a whole range of Stroud Brewery's ales. The best line up witnessed here for decades.
Nailsworth's The Mayor's Bitter / Stroud's Budding / Stroud's Tom Long
@ 4th March 2010

ROYAL OAK Prestbury GL52 3DL |
A small cosy bar with an excellent choice of ales, especially the guests which can be from about any brewery in the country . A very friendly place where we are always made very welcome.
Butcombe Bitter / Purity's Mad Goose / Timothy Taylor Landlord
@ 14th July 2009

ROYAL OAK South Cerney GL7 5UP |
A somewhat indifferent pub. Not a smart one and certainly not scruffy - it just needs a bit of a boost. The same could be said of it's beer; sometimes brilliant (Archer's Golden, Cascade), then sometimes not quite so. Always worth finding out though.
Brains' S.A / Fuller's London Pride / Marston's Pedigree
@ 4th April 2010

ROYAL WILLIAM Cranham GL6 6TT |
An amazing renaissance from the Brewer's Fayre days. At least two, but can be up to four decent ales provided now which can change from time to time including local brews.
Butcombe Bitter / Hook Norton's Old Hooky / Stroud's Tom Long
