A very traditional village pub, very sparse inside, but wonderfully atmospheric. Nothing can be more tranquil than sitting outside on a summer's day watching the water cascading from the stream opposite into it's stone reservoir. A Young's outlet (now including Wells) with Waggledance or Special alternating with any seasonal brew.

Located in the back lanes between Frampton and Epney, it is very easy to miss the turning into the pub's access road. It has changed hands a few times over the years but the real ales have remained a constant feature, although the guests don't seem to be so adventurous any more. A lack of attention on the ordering or highly popular drinking den - both clips were turned round on our last visit.

No longer the old cosy ambience of a traditional country pub, but more the current fashion of minimalist paintings and bare flooring. A decent ale or two makes the place much more attractive.

A pub of changing fortunes along the years altering it's ambience to suit. Can vary from a cosy Cotswold hideaway to the raucous village local. Beer choice usually provides two regular session beers and one guest, more often than not yet another session beer.

Aspires to be a restaurant more than a pub these days. When it re-opened under it's old name again there seemed to be a distinct demarcation for eating and drinking, but now the preferred customer is the diner. Nevertheless, if you happen to choose a quiet night it is much to your advantage as there is always a couple of decent ales from which to choose.

Much smartened up nowadays and a homely feel about the place. Very heavy on the cuisine and that could make it or break it. Once the last of the diners has gone the pub tends to shut up as there doesn't seem to be much of a 'local' element. Shame really, as there is a good pint to be had with two guests and a standard (Landlord) - just don't make it too late.

Frampton's other pub. An unfortunate description but somehow true. More of a local and maybe not as refined for the tourist, but the choice of beer can be good sometimes.

More changes! The lounge bar has been converted into an additional part of a restaurant to adjoin the conservatory. Still no sign of the wonderful ales that once encouraged a full social evening on the premises, the last visit prompting our first walkout there.

Although a longer journey is required, the ales at the end of it can be well worth it. With the Wildfowl Trust just across the canal bridge the pub is well used and hence there are up to six casks available. Uley and Wickwar brews are usually represented, but the adventurous guests are quite an attraction.

Seeing is believing with this one. Standing by the Sapperton Tunnel on the Stroudwater Canal this quaint, Bohemian antiquity exudes atmosphere. Recent refurbishment has added a large restaurant room, which fortunately doesn't impinge on the unique ambience. It's ale selection can be unusual sometimes which is an attraction in itself.

A Beefeater pub of two halves; the restaurant and all that comes with it on the one hand, mixing with the local drinkers standing around the bar on the other. From three to two selections but only 6X now - it seems to be getting worse.

One of those pubs that different landlords have strived to get going but never quite made it past the 'locals only' stage. Once inside though, it is a friendly place where Abbot Ale can be the saving grace, but usually turned around when we visit, more's the shame.

Home of the famous '2 in 1 pies'. Two small lounge bars and two more small dining areas, but if you just want to drink, there are bar stools provided - table reservations are the order of the day. Alternatively, visit in summer and enjoy the extensive patios at the rear of the building. Three regular ales.

Sit out on the 'esplanade', enjoy the views of the Severn and it's sandbanks across to Arlingham and imagine you're at the seaside. A nautical theme prevails throughout this Greene King pub with up to three of it's own brand brews available. The downside can be reversed pump clips being all too common.

A deceptively long building with rooms either end of the narrow bar area. A well looked after and popular village pub which seems to have settled on the IPA and 6X as standards. Not to our taste, so it's down to the third pump to persuade us to stay.

Not impressive ales a few years ago so the pub remained off limits to our visits. After alteration and refurbishment, a much improved three pump ale selction was introduced, but this can be reduced back to two at times. One of these is always the excellent Broadside but the others are only ever a non-descript offering. If the Broadside disappears then the off limits tag could very well be reinstated.

One of the most atmospheric places you could possibly find. A large bar area with plenty of seating and a restaurant scattered around many nooks and crannies; the courtyard being an added attraction for the good weather. Up to six ales of normally tried and tested brews with a winter appearance of 'Old Peculiar', but sometimes too many session type 'Best Bitters' takes the shine off for our tastes.
